Baseball Recap: Hersey Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Hersey had won four straight at home, but on Saturday they bumped their record up to 12-2-1 to make it five. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lake Park Lancers a 5-0 shutout. For the Huskies, this counts as revenge for the 11-6 victory the Lancers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Jack Goergen looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hersey's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chuck Meister, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Charlie Arvanitis was another, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Lake Park, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly five runs.

On Lake Park's side, they got a good showing from Patrick St. John, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. St. John also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Lancers are 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise.

Looking ahead, Hersey is taking a road trip to take on Elk Grove at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Lake Park, they will welcome Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
