Basketball Recap: Sierra Vista Takes Down Bloomington in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sierra Vista had no problem doing just that on Friday. They managed a 67-62 win over the Bloomington Bruins. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Dons also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2016.

Sierra Vista's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Buna, who went 8-for-15 to rack up 28 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Buna has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dolan Dease, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards.

Sierra Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Sierra Vista is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.9 points over those games. As for Bloomington, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-12.

Looking ahead, Sierra Vista will venture away from home to challenge Anaheim at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Anaheim has won seven straight at home, while Sierra Vista won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Bloomington does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
