Softball Recap: Marlboro County Bulldogs vs. Dillon Wildcats
Marlboro County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dillon Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 back in March.
Abby Quick was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ruthie Grooms was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with nine stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. Amir Bridges was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Marlboro County's record is now 3-15. As for Dillon, they pushed their record up to 9-13-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Coming up, Marlboro County will host Crestwood at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Dillon, they will venture away from home to face off against Wilson at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
