Football Game Preview: Kennedy Memorial Mustangs vs. Carteret Ramblers

The Kennedy Memorial Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Carteret Ramblers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Kennedy Memorial is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering South Plainfield just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by the Tigers and fell 42-14.

Despite the defeat, Kennedy Memorial got top-tier performance from Grant Lorentzen, who picked up 129 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 40 yards. Lorentzen really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 96 yards.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed eight in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lorentzen, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Carteret's offense. They lost 22-0 to Bernards on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Ramblers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Mountaineers are ranked 85th).

The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 6-3. As for Carteret, their record now sits at 3-5.

Kennedy Memorial might still be hurting after the 29-9 defeat they got from Carteret when the teams last played back in August of 2022. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
