The Firth Cougars will take on the Wendell Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Wendell took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Firth, who comes in off a win.
It was a proper cat-fight when Firth faced off against Soda Springs on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 17-9 victory.
Mckenna Erickson and Meg Leslie did most of the damage at the plate: Erickson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Leslie went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Erickson has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andrea Fielding, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Firth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Wendell's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against Gooding, falling 15-8. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Sophie Mattix made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Olmos, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.
Firth's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Wendell, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Firth hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Wendell struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
