Softball Recap: Westerly Falls Short Against Ranked Prout

Westerly faced Prout in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 5-3. The Bulldogs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Westerly saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Keegan, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Keegan is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Maddie Mankoff was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

Westerly now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Prout, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westerly will square off against Barrington at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season. As for Prout, they will face off against Coventry at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Oakers have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
