Basketball Game Preview: South Aiken Thoroughbreds vs. Gilbert Indians

The South Aiken Thoroughbreds will venture away from home to take on the Gilbert Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Saturday, South Aiken was beaten by Josey 50-23. While losing is never fun, the Thoroughbreds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 108th in South Carolina, while the Eagles are ranked 21st in Georgia).

Despite the defeat, South Aiken had strong showings from Tekinia Dixon, who posted ten points and five boards, and Jasmine Epps, who earned six points and seven rebounds. Dixon is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Meanwhile, Gilbert was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Northside Christian Academy an easy 66-44 win. The Indians were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-16.

Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for South Aiken, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

South Aiken came up short against Gilbert in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 52-48. Can South Aiken avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
