Softball Recap: Morenci Has No Trouble Against Miami

While Morenci put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Miami. The Morenci Wildcats put the hurt on the Miami Vandals with a sharp 11-0 win. Considering the Wildcats have won three matchups by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cameryn Woodall made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Tiara Jones was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Jaliyah Hernandez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Morenci and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Miami, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morenci will welcome Pima at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morenci's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Pima's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Miami, they will take on Coolidge at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Miami has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
