Soccer Game Preview: Gridley vs. Corning

The Gridley Bulldogs will challenge the Corning Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Gridley's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Oroville with a sharp 7-0 victory. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-goal performance the match before.

Their offense was hitting Oroville from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal.

Meanwhile, Corning had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over the Tigers. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 249th, while the Tigers are ranked 1123rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gridley's win bumped their record up to 13-2-2. As for Corning, they are also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-1-3 record this season.
