Recap: P.K. Yonge Blue Wave vs. Newberry Panthers
The P.K. Yonge Blue Wave fell victim to the Newberry Panthers''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Panthers on the road and fell 35-0. While losing is never fun, P.K. Yonge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 409th, while Newberry is ranked 66th).
Lawrence Wright Jr. threw for 146 yards on ten of 15 attempts. Corinthian Graham was his top target, picking up 55 receiving yards and no touchdowns.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newberry to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keil Mcgriff, who threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes. David Schmidt also helped out with an impressive 138 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding P.K. Yonge to a paltry 232 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Newberry's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Logan Mccloud and his two sacks.
P.K. Yonge has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Newberry, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
P.K. Yonge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Newberry is also done with their season.
