Softball Recap: Immokalee Makes It Three in a Row at Home

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Immokalee and Golden Gate, and Immokalee kept the tradition alive. The Immokalee Indians never let the Golden Gate Titans get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won three matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Andraa Guzman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yazmin Herrera, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Santiago, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Immokalee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Golden Gate only posted an OBP of .000.

Immokalee pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Golden Gate, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Immokalee will face off against LaBelle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Immokalee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season. Golden Gate will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Everglades City at 7:00 p.m. on March 18th.
