Onalaska and Holmen are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Hilltoppers will challenge the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Onalaska is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Onalaska is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against La Crosse Central on Monday. They fell just short of the Riverhawks by a score of 3-2. The Hilltoppers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Cooper Rudie was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Holmen entered their tilt with La Crosse Logan on Monday with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. They put the hurt on the Rangers with a sharp 13-3 win. The contest marked the Vikings' most dominant victory of the season.
Holmen also got a great performance from Alex Goryl as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Joe Meeter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Mason Flury was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Holmen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Holmen's record now sits at 12-5. As for Onalaska, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Onalaska came out on top in a nail-biter against Holmen in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilltoppers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
