Football Recap: Independence Extends Winning Streak to Three + How To Watch

Independence won the last time they faced Crestwood and things went their way on Friday too. The Mustangs strolled past the Cadets with points to spare, taking the game 37-19. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Cadets are ranked 85th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carver Wieland had a dynamite game, rushing for 123 yards and two TDs on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns. 80 of those passing yards were hauled in by Cael Troutman, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Independence's run defense was locked in: Crestwood could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The Mustangs didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.2.

The win was the third in a row for Independence, bringing their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.3 points on average this season. As for Crestwood, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Independence will face off against Center Point-Urbana at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Crestwood, they will take on New Hampton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Cadets their first taste of in-conference action this season.
