Baseball Recap: Leigh Makes It Seven in a Row on the Road

Leigh came out on top against Santa Cruz on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Longhorns skirted past the Cardinals 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Longhorns have posted since February 28th.

The team relied heavily on Lance Takamura, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Brandon Kim was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Leigh kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.

Leigh's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Santa Cruz, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Coming up, Leigh will venture away from home to take on Pioneer at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Santa Cruz, they will welcome Soquel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
