Football Recap: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Heritage Hills Patriots
Mt. Vernon lost against Heritage Hills back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wildcats had to suffer through a 69-7 loss at the hands of the Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Patriots are ranked 43rd).
Peyton Gray was his usual excellent self, picking up 139 receiving yards and four touchdowns for Heritage Hills. Those four receiving touchdowns gave Gray a new career-high. Tyler Ruxer did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 86 receiving yards.
This is the second loss in a row for Mt. Vernon and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Heritage Hills, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will venture away from home to square off against Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will be up against the Hatchets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.43 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Heritage Hills, they are taking a road trip to challenge North Posey at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.
