Recap: Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds vs. Custer County Bobcats
The Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came out on top against Custer County by a score of 40-27. That's another feather in the cap for Sangre de Cristo, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Sangre de Cristo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaydra Cordova out in front who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Cordova scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Audrina Knorr, who scored 12 points along with six steals.
Sangre de Cristo is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Custer County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sangre de Cristo will take on Sierra Grande at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sangre de Cristo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. Custer County is on the road again on Friday and plays Center at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th.
