Palo Verde hasn't had much luck against Coronado recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Panthers will head out to take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Palo Verde is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Shadow Ridge, who was ranked eighth at the time (Palo Verde was ranked seventh). The Panthers were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Mustangs on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Panthers have posted against the Mustangs since November 7, 2019.
While Palo Verde won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-22, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Coronado made easy work of Durango on Wednesday and carried off a 3-0 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Trailblazers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 25-19, 25-11.
Palo Verde better focus on containing ISABELLE GUERZON and NAKISA FRIEDMAN as the pair were huge in Coronado's win. GUERZON had 14 digs and three assists, while FRIEDMAN had ten digs and two assists. GUERZON is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played.
Palo Verde's record now sits at 14-16. As for Coronado, their record is now 23-8.
Palo Verde came up short against Coronado when the teams last played back in August, falling 2-0. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
