After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Shenandoah Valley brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over Weatherly on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Blue Devils as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Aubrie Monaghan and Zoey Zulkowski made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Monaghan pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Zulkowski struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs but no hits. At bat, Monaghan went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Zulkowski went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Zulkowski has hit this season.
In other batting news, Maria Castro was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Katrina McNulty, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Shenandoah Valley's win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Weatherly, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9.
