Basketball Recap: Hampton Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Hampton can now relate to. The game between them and the Uniontown Red Raiders didn't end well, with the Hampton Talbots falling 59-42. While losing is never fun, the Talbots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while the Red Raiders are ranked 23rd).

Uniontown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tori Grooms, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points and three steals. Grooms has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Calvin Winfrey, who went 5-for-12 en route to 22 points and five boards.

Hampton's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Uniontown, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 20-3.

Hampton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Uniontown, they will face off against Peters Township on Friday. Uniontown knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 matches -- so hopefully Peters Township likes a good challenge.
