Softball Recap: Brandeis Comes Up Short

Brandeis fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Churchill on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Churchill Chargers by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Broncos of the 22-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Marina Pichardo spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Peyton Miers was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Tegan Brown, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Miers wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Brandeis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Brandeis dropped their record down to 3-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Churchill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-12-1.

Looking ahead, Brandeis will head out to face off against Clark at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Churchill, they will host SA Roosevelt at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
