Baseball Game Preview: Deckerville Eagles vs. Akron-Fairgrove Vikings

The Deckerville Eagles will square off against the Akron-Fairgrove Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Mayville hit Deckerville with a four-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 8-2 to the Wildcats. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Deckerville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Franzel, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Akron-Fairgrove's offense. They came up short against Peck on Monday, falling 18-0. The Vikings just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Akron-Fairgrove's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Deckerville, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Deckerville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Akron-Fairgrove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Deckerville took their win against Akron-Fairgrove when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
