Basketball Recap: Del Norte Falls Despite Big Games from Violet Goudeau and Bleona Agushi

After flying high against Valley last Tuesday, Del Norte came back down to earth. The Del Norte Knights lost to the Hope Christian Huskies on the road by a 52-34 margin on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, with their most recent defeat being a 54-42 loss on February 5th.

Despite the loss, Del Norte had strong showings from Bleona Agushi, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards, and Violet Goudeau, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. Agushi is becoming a predictor of Del Norte's success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 4-2 (and 5-15 when she doesn't).

Even though they lost, Del Norte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Hope Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bri Bishop, who had 20 points and five boards. Bishop has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Bishop, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Del Norte dropped their record down to 9-17 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Hope Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-10 record this season.

As of now, neither Del Norte nor Hope Christian have any future games scheduled.
