Softball Recap: Giles Comes Up Short

If Giles was feeling good fresh off their 16-3 takedown of Galax on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans came up short against the Auburn Eagles on Tuesday, falling 11-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in March.

Giles has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Auburn, their victory bumped their record up to 12-0.

Coming up, Giles will head out on the road to challenge Patrick County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. As for Auburn, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Blacksburg at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bruins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.78 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
