Football Game Preview: Santa Maria Cougars vs. Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats + How To Watch

The Santa Maria Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Santa Maria took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Freer 42-14. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted against the Buckaroos since November 10, 2017.

Daniel Martinez had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 174 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Luis Otero was in the mix as well, providing Santa Maria with two touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Santa Maria's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Otero, Gabriel Picazo, and Jason Aleman, who each picked up one sack apiece. Santa Maria received some extra help from Otero, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Skidmore-Tynan). They claimed a resounding 36-6 win over Kaufer. The Bobcats haven't had any issues with the Seahawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Santa Maria now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Skidmore-Tynan, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Everything went Santa Maria's way against Skidmore-Tynan when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Santa Maria made off with a 38-16 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
