Softball Game Preview: Easley Green Wave vs. Hillcrest Rams

The Easley Green Wave will venture away from home to face off against the Hillcrest Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Easley narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mauldin 2-1. That's two games straight that the Green Wave have won by just one run.

Jalyn McGee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hillcrest, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over J.L. Mann on Friday. The contest marked the Rams' most dominant win of the season so far.

Like Easley, Hillcrest also got a great game from a two-way player: Olivia Baker. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Baker has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That run marked the first that she scored this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maria Sialmas, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Chloe Cross was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Hillcrest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Easley and bumps their season record up to 3-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Hillcrest, they moved to 4-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
