Football Recap: Escondido Skates Past Vista with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Escondido). They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat the Vista Panthers 35-0. That's more bragging rights for the Cougars, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Mia Diaz had a dynamite game, rushing for 32 yards and one TD, while also catching one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Abby White, who gained 162 total yards and a touchdown.

Escondido didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Diaz and Naomi Gutierrez.

Escondido has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.4 points on average over those games. As for Vista, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Escondido will welcome Coastal Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Vista, they will face off against El Camino at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.64 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
