Softball Recap: Nazareth Area Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Pocono Mountain East typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Nazareth Area proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Cardinals. The Blue Eagles haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Shauna McNamee, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gianna Perillo, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Nazareth Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Nazareth Area's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pocono Mountain East, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Nazareth Area will challenge rival Easton Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Eagles 1.9, the Rovers 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Pocono Mountain East is set to square off against their familiar foe Allentown Central Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
