Recap: Hodgeman County Longhorns vs. Ashland Blue Jays
Even though the Ashland Blue Jays scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, the Hodgeman County Longhorns still came out on top. Hodgeman County walked away with a 72-64 win over Ashland. Given Hodgeman County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Ashland is ranked 247th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Owen Reece was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 42 points and 13 rebounds. The game was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Hazen Rydquist was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight assists.
The win makes it two in a row for Hodgeman County and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Ashland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hodgeman County will take on Pawnee Heights at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pawnee Heights focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 back in December of 2023. As for Ashland, they will be playing at home against South Central on Tuesday. South Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 317 points over their last five matches.
