Softball Recap: Fremont Eagles vs. Garrett Railroaders

Fremont extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 8-10 in the process. They lost 17-2 to the Garrett Railroaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Railroaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-9 back in April.

Emma Creager made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

As for Garrett, their victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

On Garrett's side, Ashlee Vanderbosch made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Vanderbosch has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Peyton Grindstaff was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matches. Megan Fox also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fremont will head out to square off against Lakeland at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Garrett, they will square off against Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
