Basketball Game Preview: Delta Eagles vs. Greenfield-Central Cougars

Delta hasn't had much luck against Greenfield-Central recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Delta Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 1:30 p.m. Delta will be strutting in after a win while Greenfield-Central will be coming in after a loss.

Delta will head into Tuesday's match after some sweet revenge against Eastbrook: Delta made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Eastbrook, but still couldn't quite topple them. Delta took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 59-26 victory over Eastbrook. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Panthers are ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Greenfield-Central was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 48-43 to Shelbyville.

Delta will need focus on slowing down Izzy Silcox, one of several Greenfield-Central players who made an impact when they last played. She went 6 for 14 on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. Silcox is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaney Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Greenfield-Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Delta has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Greenfield-Central, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.

Things could have been worse for Delta, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-36 loss to Greenfield-Central when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Delta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
