Softball Recap: Lake Weir's Losing Streak Snapped at 18 Games

Lake Weir came into Wednesday's match having lost 18 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They never let the North Marion Colts get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Wednesday. The Hurricanes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Beth Levy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyra Rigozzi, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of G Weidenbacher, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4.

Lake Weir always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lake Weir's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for North Marion, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Weir will challenge Lake Minneola at 6:30 p.m. on March 21st. North Marion will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Interlachen at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th.
