Basketball Recap: Maple Valley Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Maple Valley duked it out withStockbridge on Tuesday. The Maple Valley Lions were outmatched by the Stockbridge Panthers and fell 78-40. The Lions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-14.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kelvin Nevins-Davis, who posted seven points and five boards. Teegen McDonald was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Maple Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stockbridge only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Shannon Henderson was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds for Stockbridge. With that strong performance, Henderson is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Dalton, who went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Maple Valley and nudges their season record down to 5-10. As for Stockbridge, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Maple Valley has already played their next contest, a 62-37 loss against Union City on the 31st. As for Stockbridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 59-45 victory against Springport on the 31st.
