Softball Game Preview: Athens Golden Eagles vs. Muscle Shoals Trojans

The Athens Golden Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Muscle Shoals Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Athens is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Athens easily dispatched Bob Jones on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Athens fell just short of Sparkman by a score of 7-5 on Friday. The Golden Eagles have struggled against the Senators recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.

Athens got a good showing from Camry Townsend, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Jaicey Harty made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Lily Lowery, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Muscle Shoals fell victim to Hamilton and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Aggies, falling 6-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Trojans were not able to get on the board.

Muscle Shoals now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Athens, their record now sits at 8-5.

Athens couldn't quite get it done against Muscle Shoals when the teams last played back in April of 2021 as they fell 7-3. Can Athens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
