Baseball Recap: Marcellus Comes Up Short

Marcellus had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-5 to make it seven. They fell 5-1 to the Jordan-Elbridge Eagles. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2019.

Gavin Foy was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Foy wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Mattison, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Jordan-Elbridge, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.

On Jordan-Elbridge's side, Shannon III Ahern spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 16 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gage Davey, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. Hunter LaBarge was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marcellus will square off against Homer at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jordan-Elbridge, they will take on Skaneateles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
