Baseball Recap: Allen Comes Up Short

Allen fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Mater Dei on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mater Dei Monarchs by a score of 3-2. That makes it the first time this season the Eagles have let down their home crowd.

Allen got a good showing from Peter Cuoco, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Allen saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Blessing, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Allen's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Mater Dei, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Allen and Mater Dei's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Allen will take on Frenship at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, a team that's only allowed 3.67 runs per game. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Allen: 1.9, Mater Dei: 0.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Mater Dei and Magnolia Heights (who has only given up two runs per game) will meet at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
