Baseball Recap: Central Catholic Snags Fourth Win in Last Five Games

Central Catholic posted their biggest win since May 1, 2024 on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Salado Eagles a 7-0 shutout.

Matt McClenan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. McClenan was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Dionicio Perez looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, Jake Hernandez was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Jason Sapp, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Central Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salado only posted a batting average of .115.

Central Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-1-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Salado and nudges their season record down to 1-4-1.

Coincidentally, Central Catholic and Salado will both be playing Sterling the next time they take the field. Central Catholic will head out to face Sterling at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, while Salado will play them later in the day, at 10:00 a.m.
