Mahoning Valley - Scarlet Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Geno Perry Crosses Big Stat Threshold

On Friday, Lowellville got the W thanks in part to Geno Perry playing the best football he has all season. Perry rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. Thanks to that strong showing, he's now averaging 2.1 rushing touchdowns per game. Those 282 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

On the year, Perry has averaged 22.2 receiving yards per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he was only averaging 35.33 rushing yards per game. This year he is averaging 184.78 rushing yards.

Darney Made His Presence Known in Western Reserve's 39-12 Win

Jack Darney posted a new career-high in rushing yards on Friday. He rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry.

Darney must have Mineral Ridge's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Darney rushed for 138 yards while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also picked up 51 receiving yards and a touchdown the last time he and the Rams duked it out back in October of 2023.

Springfield Wins Sixth-Straight Thanks to Dante Gentile

Springfield picked up their sixth consecutive win on Friday thanks in part to Dante Gentile. Gentile turned in nothing short of a gem, rushing for 187 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his eighth straight game with at least 115 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Gentile and Springfield will look to defend their home field on Friday against Lowellville at 7:00 p.m. The Tigers had to take a loss when they last met the Rockets, but Gentile had little to do with the loss: he rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. Can he match (or beat) that performance?
