Softball Recap: North Central Thunderbirds vs. Bloomfield Cardinals

North Central extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-17 in the process. They came up short against the Bloomfield Cardinals, falling 13-1. The Thunderbirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

As for Bloomfield, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-8. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 4, 2024 (when they won 21-2).

For Bloomfield's part, Lila Koontz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Koontz has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Addison Lafree was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Gwenavere Klun was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, North Central will challenge Eastern Greene at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Bloomfield, they will square off against Bloomington North at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
