Basketball Recap: Louis Marchino's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Franklin Towne over Philadelphia Academy Charter

After flying high against Nueva Esperanza last Tuesday, Franklin Towne came back down to earth. The Franklin Towne Warriors took a 68-50 bruising from the Philadelphia Academy Charter Chargers on Thursday. The Warriors were down 53-33 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Louis Marchino, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyel Waters, who put up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Franklin Towne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Philadelphia Academy Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tahj Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Wilson a new career-high in assists (eight). Jordan Benzenahfer was another key player, going 9 of 17 on his way to 21 points.

Franklin Towne moved to 5-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Philadelphia Academy Charter, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Franklin Towne and John Bartram will face off at 3:15 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Philadelphia Academy Charter, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Belmont Charter at 3:15 p.m. Philadelphia Academy Charter has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
