Basketball Recap: Jay Beats Southwest Legacy for Their 15th Straight Win

Jay had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.3 points) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 64-47 win over the Southwest Legacy Titans. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Titans are ranked 529th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jay got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Camrin Garza out in front who went 7 of 14 en route to 19 points in addition to seven assists and six steals. Garza has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 34 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Guillen, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 18 points.

Despite the loss, Southwest Legacy still got an impressive performance from Giovanni Aranda, who went 10 of 20 en route to 23 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Gomez, who posted four points and five boards.

Jay's win was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 29-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.2 points per game. As for Southwest Legacy, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-17.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jay has already played their next matchup (against McCollum), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Southwest Legacy will challenge Southside at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Southwest Legacy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season.
