Baseball Recap: Gilbert's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After low-scoring totals in their previous four contest, Gilbert brought some dynamite into their most recent game. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mountain Pointe Pride a 10-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Tigers have won seven matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Wilfredo Aviles IV made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Brady Carlin was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Gilbert: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-12 otherwise. Cameron Foegal was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Gilbert hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory snapped Gilbert's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-12 record. As for Mountain Pointe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-18 record this season.

Gilbert will square off against Higley at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Knights have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Mountain Pointe, they will face off against Horizon at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
