Soccer Game Preview: Maple Mountain vs. Hillcrest

The Maple Mountain Eagles will challenge the Hillcrest Huskies at 2:15 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Maple Mountain sitting on three straight victories and Hillcrest on four.

Maple Mountain is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Salem Hills by a score of 5-3. Maple Mountain found success even though the refs didn't miss a thing: four Maple Mountain players were handed yellow cards.

They hit Salem Hills with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Trey Bess (2), Nathan Pineda (2), and Carter Egbert.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Hillcrest sidestepped Pleasant Grove for a 3-2 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given Hillcrest's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah soccer rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Pleasant Grove are ranked eighth).

Maple Mountain's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Hillcrest, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 14-5.

Maple Mountain got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2019 against Hillcrest by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
