Basketball Recap: Madeline Gibbs Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Chatfield

Cherokee Trail picked up another tournament win on Friday. They strolled past the Chatfield Chargers with points to spare, taking the game 65-46. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Chargers are ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cherokee Trail to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madeline Gibbs, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Talia Strode, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 11 points and three steals.

Several Chargers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordyn Reed, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Sadie Goodwin was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points.

Cherokee Trail's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Chatfield, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Cherokee Trail wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-61 loss against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus on the 4th. As for Chatfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-48 defeat against Cody on the 4th.
