Westlake is ranked highly in their home state and on Thursday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Pocatello. The Westlake Thunder rang in the new year with a 65-52 win over the Pocatello Thunder. Winning may never get old, but Westlake sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Among those leading the charge was Mia Foster, who went 8 for 11 on her way to 19 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Janiece Sikander was another key player, going 5 for 8 on her way to 11 points and five steals.

Westlake was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pocatello only posted three assists.

Pocatello's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Abby Lusk, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 21 points in addition to seven boards and three steals, and Kennasyn Garza, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Garza is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylee Rogers, who posted ten points and three steals.

Westlake has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.4 points per game. As for Pocatello, with the loss, they broke their 12-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-1.

Westlake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 39-35 defeat against Madison on the 3rd. As for Pocatello, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-24 victory against Teton on the 3rd.
