Basketball Recap: Union Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Union took on South Summit on Tuesday. The Union Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to the South Summit Wildcats. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Union saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Payzlei Parrish went 6 of 9 on her way to 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Parrish has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of LYDIA HOSCHOUER, who posted 12 points.

It was another big night for Emma Broadbent, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds for South Summit. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Broadbent has scored at least a third of South Summit's points. Mariah Bowen was another key player, putting up 18 points and five steals.

Union's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for South Summit, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.

Union didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-29 defeat against Grantsville on the 23rd. South Summit has also already played their next contest, a 59-15 victory against Ben Lomond on the 23rd.
