Recap: Canton Chiefs vs. Novi Wildcats
The Canton Chiefs waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They pulled ahead with a 55-54 photo finish over Novi. Given Canton's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Novi is ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canton was led to victory by Devon Pettus and Bradley Eziuka. Pettus scored 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Eziuka scored 21 points along with two steals. Eziuka has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Caleb Williams, who scored seven points.
Novi lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chase LeFevre, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals. LeFevre is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Brendan Lynch was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Canton's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Novi, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Canton will head out on the road to face off against Howell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Novi, they will face off against Northville at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Northville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
