Basketball Recap: Layton Christian Academy Beats Summit Academy for Their Seventh Straight Win

Layton Christian Academy had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They came out on top against the Summit Academy Bears by a score of 46-33. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Eagles also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Layton Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Fabiana Lopez, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 14 points and six steals. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last six games she's played. Ruby Knight-Paris was another key player, putting up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Vanessa Mansfield and Reagan Morgan certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Mansfield posted seven points and five boards, while Morgan had eight points. The dominant performance also gave Mansfield a new career-high in assists (two).

Layton Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Summit Academy, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Layton Christian Academy will take on Judge Memorial Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Judge Memorial Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 188 points over their last three games. As for Summit Academy, they will square off against Hillcrest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Summit Academy is facing Hillcrest at the right time seeing as Hillcrest is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
