Softball Game Preview: Berwyn/Cicero Morton Mustangs vs. Addison Trail Blazers

Berwyn/Cicero Morton hasn't had much luck against Addison Trail recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Blazers at 4:30 p.m.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Berwyn/Cicero Morton nor Leyden made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mustangs fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alyssa Kunz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Addison Trail). They blew past Proviso East 17-1 on Wednesday. Considering the Blazers have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Addison Trail's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Berwyn/Cicero Morton, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Berwyn/Cicero Morton came out on top in a nail-biter against Addison Trail in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
