After flying high against Sahuaro last Saturday, St. Mary came back down to earth. The St. Mary's Knights fell just short of the Thatcher Eagles by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday. The Knights' loss signaled the end of their undefeated season.
Bily Lewis put in work no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Lewis was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Lewis wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Javier Romero, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another was Jacob Del La Rosa, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Having lost for the first time this season, St. Mary's fell to 6-1. As for Thatcher, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
St. Mary's wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 12-4 defeat against Nogales on the 12th. As for Thatcher, they will be taking part in a tournament against Benson at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
