Baseball Recap: Hastings Find Success

With a playoff win on the line, Hastings rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They skirted past the Briarcliff Bears 4-2. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 9-7 win on Saturday.

The team relied heavily on Kieran McGrath, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Hastings is undefeated when McGrath posts one or more home runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Andrew Rizzo, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Hastings is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. As for Briarcliff, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.

Looking ahead, Hastings will head out to challenge Putnam Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Yellow Jackets surely won't give up without a fight. Briarcliff does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
